On behalf of Ann Tudor, Barbara Gregson and CREW can I thank everyone who attended our ‘Tribute Walk’.
We had 55 members turning up at the Navigation for the start, Colin Walshaw gave a tribute to John & Tony and a short history about CREW. It was also befitting to pay tribute to Tony Barker ‘Little Tony’, one of our first walk leaders, who sadly passed away earlier in the year; his knowledge of the many tracks and path’s in Calderdale and beyond gave our walkers some great days out.
We set off in two groups, towards the Calder & Hebble locks, watched a narrow boat in the lock being raised up, before our journey back. There was plenty of talking, memories being exchanged, but most importantly there were several of our older members who we haven’t seen for some time joining us and it was great to see them.
Once back at the Navigation, several staying for lunch and others members able to join us, the talking and laughter continued.
We have missed our social gatherings over the last 18 months, this just went to prove it. Hopefully we will be able to plan some more for the future and make the ‘Tribute Walk’ an annual occasion!
Tuesday – 22nd of June – Outlane, Scapgoat & Wholestone Hills.
Brian Birkby will be leading our walk from the Outlane Golf Club, Slack Lane, Outlane, HD3 3FQ.
If you are staying for lunch, please park in the bottom car park, however, if not either park on the main A640 on New Hey Road or on the access road.
The walk is a 4 mile 2+ with 12 stiles. There is a steep uphill near the start, with some magnificent views on a good day.
