CREW – Short Walk

Savile Park

We start our walk at the North Bridge Leisure Center, walk through the carpark to the main entrance of Sainsbury’s, exit the carpark on to Wade Street, turn right to join Winding Road, turn left towards the railway station.

You will pass The Piece Hall, Industrial Museum, Library and Square Chapel, all worth a visit if you have the time or for another day.

At the railway station continue along Church Street to the mini round about and turn right, heading up Prescott Street to its junction with Portland Place and Skircoat Road. Turn left and continue along Skircoat Road, passing The Shay Stadium to the junction of Heath Road.

Walk past Sparrow Park with Prince Albert on his favorite horse ‘Nimrod’, continuing up Heath Road to the junction with Free School Lane. Turn right and follow the road up, passing the site of the former Royal Halifax Infirmary. Just before to reach St. Jude’s Church, cross the road and walk along Queens Gate. Savile Park is to your right and up to the Crossley Heath School.

At the junction with Manor Heath Road, turn left and walk down to meet the entrance on your right to Manor Heath Park. You can stroll around the park on the many paths; the woodland walk takes you around the perimeter of the park. The park has many attractions for you, along with a café and very often an ice-cream van.

When you are ready to leave, walk down to the exit in the far left-hand corner on to Skircoat Green Road, turn left and walk along to the junction of roads, if you take the right-hand road at the junction, you will continue down Skircoat Green Road to Huddersfield Road.

Cross the road next to Tesco’s and head down Shaw Hill, Shay Syke, South Parade and Church Street towards the railway station. Continue along Square Road, Winding Road and Wade Street on your return to the NBLC.
