CREW – Short Walks

Chaddy Field

We start our walk from the North Bridge Leisure Centre, walk across the Sainsbury’s carpark to leave by the petrol station on to Charlestown Road. Turn right and walk along the footpath, going down Bank Bottom, with the Minster in front of you.

Turn left on to Lower Kirkgate and pass Matalan, continue along Berry Lane and under the railway arch, keep to your right and as you pass the first building on your left you will see a tarmac path taking you between the Nestle building and the wildlife area. This will take you around the building, crossing the Hebble Brook and on to Waterside. Continue along the road until you come to Water Lane.

Turn left and walk up the cobbled hill, passing Stoney Royd Cemetery, you will come to the area called Caddy Field. Continue up Swan Bank as it turns left on to Bailey Hall and walk down the footpath back to the viaduct.

Walk past the old coal drops and turn left up Church Street and enter the grounds of the Minster, you can take either route around the Minster to enter Duffy’s Park and the Cenotaph.

If you want to extend you time and if the Minster is open, you can always go inside and see this beautiful building and find the great history it holds. Anne Lister of Shibden Hall is buried inside.

Leave Duffy’s Park onto King Street, turn left and walk up to Winding Road, turn right and walk up to the Wade Street and back to the Sainsbury’s carpark. Walk through the carpark back to the NBLC.
