Halifax Circular

We start our walk from the North Bridge Leisure Centre, walk through Sainsbury’s carpark towards the main entrance and exit at Wade Street, turn right and up to Winding Road. Turn left and walk down Winding Road and then Square Road towards the Railway Station.

Time permitting or for another day, you will pass The Piece Hall, Industrial Museum, Library and Square Chapel, all worth a visit.

At the railway station continue along Church Street until you reach the mini-round about, turn right and go up Prescott Street, you will pass the old Drill Hall of the Duke of Wellington Regiment and then the Old County Court building. At the junction with Portland Place cross the road and continue up Prescott Street.

On you right is Harrison Road, as you walk along Harrison Road on your left is the site of the former ‘Blue Coat School’, now homes for the elderly; further along are the building of the former Halifax Magistrates Court and Police Station. Continue along until you reach Barum Top and Weatherspoon’s.

Cross the road and walk down Rawson Street to meet Commercial Street, turn left and walk to Cheapside on your right, down to the side of Wilkinsons, straight forward to Market Street. Turn left and walk along towards the bus station, pass the bus station and cross Winding Road. Continue along Northgate to turn right down the cobbled road and back to the NBLC.
